Sparks announce coaching change for U12

Starting this U-12 year, there will be a new coach and trainer Bill Bragg, who has national recognition as a coach, especially in player development — and even more specifically in foot-skills, ball-control mastery, attacking soccer and self-confidence. He has taken teams to the championships in 21 “State Cups” in MD and VA -- as part of the US YOUTH Soccer National Championship. He has helped hundreds of players get to college soccer, as well as make the Olympic Development Teams at State, Regional, and National Levels. Also, he has coached many players who have received various accolades and awards, such as: Wash Post All-Met, All-State (VA & MD), Parade All-American HS, NCAA All-American, NCAA Freshman of the Year, Finalist for Female Athlete of the Year, and many more. As well, he has a Ph.D. in Education, and has coached select soccer since 1980. As typical with all the other teams he has coached, across 14 different WAGS and NCSL clubs, he will make use of a variety of colleagues and ex-HS/college players that he has known since they were young players for him, especially female athletes who were among the best in WAGS in their day!

About The SPARKS...

The rising U-12 ASHBURN GIRLS SELECT TEAM (Sparks) has a year around player-development and highly competitive soccer program. The team since U-9 has been under the direction of Coach Pete Davies and has had training by Bill Bragg, Ivan Sampson, Royce Brodie and Alex Teixeira and other professionals. The U-9 through U-11 ASC Program has focused on top-notch player development as well as keeping them highly motivated and interested in the game. Success has come naturally, though the focus was not on “winning” at any cost. This will be continued in the team’s next phase U-12 through U-14, under the guidance of new coach. At the moment, Sparks is in the top 6-10 teams in VA, with hopes of being State Champs at some point in the future! :-)

2011 Potomac Memorial Tournament Champions!

Playing five games and an additional 20 minute overtime, the Sparks overcame quality opponents and the heat to win the 2011 Potomac Memorial Tournament. The Sparks played a near flawless tournament with only a single goal against. The final game was played to a 0-0 conclusion against a tough team from Lyndhurst New Jersey. After hitting the post on the first PK, the Sparks hit their next three PKs to end the match. Huge congratulations go out to all of the Sparks for their success!
